The Lakes of Kashmir is a must for those on a
tour to the valley. In fact, the city of Srinagar itself is quite
famous for its lakes. Peace, serenity, calm, tranquility all defines
the beautiful lakes of Kashmir. Apart from that, the delightful

the amazing shikaras and houseboats on the lake that further add to
the enjoyment.
Dal Lake has rightfully become an icon of the Kashmir
tourism industry. A Himalayan urban lake, it has five basins and a
number of channels that are well linked with each other. There are
plenty of fishes in Dal Lake and fishery is the second largest
industry of the region centered on the lake. The sparkling quiet
waters of Dal surrounded by snow-capped mountains on its three
sides, undoubtedly mark it as one of the most beautiful lakes of
India. It is also the second largest lake in the State of Jammu and
Kashmir with numerous gardens and orchards all along its shores.
Houseboats form an indelible part of the scenery of the Dal Lake
that are always ready to take tourists to a romantic and peaceful
ride of the lake and soothe their nerves as the houseboat floats
over the slightly rippling waters. They also offer some of the most
exotic views of the splendid scenery of the Dal Lake.
Nagin Lake of Kashmir is an offshoot leading from the Dal
Lake. The Nagin Lake is located to the east of the city, at the
foothill of the mountain Zabarwan. On the edges of the Nageen Lake
are a number of willow and poplar trees. The reflection of these
tees in the water of the lake lends it a beautiful view. Surrounded
by Shankaracharya hill (Takht-e-Suleiman) on the south and Hari
Parbat on the west, the Nagin Lake of Kashmir presents a charming
sight. Shikaras, ferrying people to and from the lake, are a
fascinating feature of the lake. Bathing boats as well as water-skis
and motor launches are also available for hire at the lake.
Anchar Lake assessable by a Moghul Style Shikara, capable of
carrying 4 persons and rowed by six oarsmen the route takes you
through scenic countryside. Via man-made canals. Anchar Lake is a
bird water's paradise where you will be able to watch and identify
many species of birds, some of them on their way to extinction.
