Uttaranchal has three major seasons summer,
monsoon & winter. The hilly terrain of the Himalayan region has
snow cover and is severely cold in winter experience in snow fall
normally during the period from December to March. The climatic
conditions of Almora, Nainital, Pithoragarh, Chamoli, Uttarkashi,
Pauri & Dehradun are humid and cold.
The average temperature in summer is between 12°-16°C and
the average annual rain fall is 150-200cm. Rain fall is related to
SW monsoon from June to Septembet, 85% of which falls during the
month from July to September. The district of Dehradun, Nainital &
Garhwal experience the maximum and totrential rainfall.
The winter nights are extremely cold everywhere in Uttaranchal.
Between April & June temperature on plains can cross 40°C
temperature, drop by upto 10°C during the monsoon which begins
around mid - June and sometimes humidity can be uncomfortable during
this season. With increasing heights temperatures in the hill region
fall sharply and there is permanent snow cover on high peaks.
Weather, in the hills especially near the peaks, can be quite
uncertain.
