All About Nepal

Trekking in Nepal

A trek is walking at our own pace on well-established trails that go from village to village. You will enjoy a close contact with people in remote mountain villages whose lifestyle has not changed for generations. You can trek in Nepal in many season of the year except the monsoon (mid-June to mid-September) as usually heavy rainfall occurs. But even during the rainy season you will find beautiful countryside with flora that is seen, which is not seen in the other season of the year.

You do not need to be a professional mountaineer to trek on the hills of Nepal. But it is Always advantageous to explore something more if you are physically fit. Perhaps the most enjoyable part of our trek will be the cool air of the mountains and magnificent views of the mountain peaks.

Your trek will begin after breakfast. The morning walk is usually 3-4 hours and lunch will be made around noon. The camping site is reached around 4 p.m. and in the evening there will be plenty of time to relax. Each day is planned so that if you are a slow or a fast walker, there will be a lots of time to spare.

If you are trekking in the higher altitudes, please tell your group leader immediately, if you feel even the little bit sick. Do not ignore headaches as they are the first sign of the altitudes sickness. Your inability to complete the trek is nothing compared to loss of life. Remember that your guides are responsible professionals, so feel free to tell them how you feel.

Highlanders Special Trekking Routes
Highlander has embarked on new trekking routes in Nepal to explore the richness of nature and culture and of course to show the reality of Nepalese daily life. We have few selected of the beaten trekking packages in Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan, Sikkim and Ladakh.

North of Pokhara
This region has the most commercial trekking trails. However it offers some extra ordinary scenes of icy himalyan peaks and traditional mountain villages. You will encounter many ethnic groups and therefore gain a good understanding of the cultural differences in nepal.Kathmandu - Pokhara is either 6 hours by bus or 35 minutes by plane.

North of Kathmandu
Just north of the capital is a good trekking area, which offers deep and narrow valleys as well as high mountains. This is the homeland of Sherpa, Brahman and Chetri. You will come upon many cultural spots and pilgrimage sites.

The Wild West
The far west area of nepal is rarely visited by tourists. Coming here is like traveling backwards in time. Forget jeans and coca-cola. In this area it is very difficult to travel alone - there is hardly any teahouses och inns to eat or sleep in. But it is perfect for a camping trekk. We can arrange a complete trek in this rarely visited area, including food, tenets, health care and more.
The area is extremely beautiful and very different from other parts of Nepal - majestic forests and a wonderful Himalayan scenery.

Solu-Khumbu/Everest
Solu-khumbu is the district southwest of mt. Everest. The area is populated by sherpas in its higher parts and tamangs and rais in the lower parts. mt. Everest and several other peaks over 8000m are natural gems in this area. Solu-khumbu is known as the roof of the world. This is the home of mount everest, the highest peak in the world. You can either travel by bus to jiri and then walk to everest base camp in 2-3 weeks or fly to Lukla.

Eastern Nepal
Different ethnic groups inhabit the east ofNepal. This area generally recieves more rainfall which increase the agricultural productivity. The rhododendron forests and the spectacular mountain scenario form the main attractions. Quite few tourists travel to this area. Therefore you must be self-sufficient. If not we arrange a camping trekk of course, then we will take care of food, tents, healtcare and much more.

Restricted Areas
Since 1991 it is possible to get permission to enter former restricted areas. The restrictions are to protect the environment and culture of these remote regions. Each group will be assigned a special "Environmental Officer" who will accompany during the trekking period.
